To read CAN bus data, CAN interface must be enabled. Also, when connecting for the first time, it is recommended to use Passive Mode of CAN bus operation.
All necessary settings are made in the device configuration on the CAN bus tab.
- Connect device to CAN bus, open CAN Spy.
- In the Source drop-down list, select the connected CAN interface of the device.
- In the CAN bus baud rate (bps) drop-down list, specify the required speed and click Start button.
Or click Detect CAN bus baud rate button to start automatic speed selection.
Wait... until the program sees the data on the bus
- When messages appear on the Message table tab, go to the Record log tab.
- Add new vehicle (or select an available one from the list) and be sure to indicate its "Make" and "Model".
- Add connection point (or select an available one from the list) and be sure to specify its description.
Program will set the baud rate automatically based on the current data from the CAN bus.
- Press the button "Record new log" and select one of the recording templates.
Next, follow the instructions in the recording wizard of the selected template.
One or more templates can be recorded.
While the log is being recorded, there is an indicator at the top of the window. If it is green, then the data is being recorded correctly.
- To save the recorded logs, you must click Make a report file button.
In the window that opens, you need to select which templates you want to save.
The result of saving will be a .zip
archive with log files.
Process described above is clearly shown in the animation.

Saved logs can be sent to Navtelecom Technical Support team to create a new decoding file, to add new parameters to an existing file, or to fix errors in existing files.
Saved logs can be used for replay in the CAN Spy program to select the decoding file or you can try yourself to find the parameters in the CAN bus.
